As Time Goes By

In the news headlines this week is the assertion that newly infected AIDS patients can expect to live up to 24 years. That’s great. I have been living with AIDS for around 20 years, so certainly I am not a new patient.

This means that it is likely that I will be dead before a couple of years have passed. I form this notion not just from the news, but from seeing what is happening to my friends in the community.

Well, whatever. I have been taking this time, potentially my twi-light, to re-examine and re-align some of my priorities - such as they are.

You CERTAINLY need antidepressants.
Do you realize that their is only one person who can make that statistic true! You have to have the strength of mind to overcome the odds. As I said before, come home for a visit, that will surely lighten your spirits, or tire you out completely (haha). And about a sig.other, you are tooooo picky!
Remember the old addage---"there is never a pot so crooked that there's a lid to fit it."

Ha Ha. The post reads bleaker than I typed it.

I view this realization not as depressing, but as liberating. I want to live every extra second that I can, but there are limits.

Acknowledging these limits will let me focus on things that will be more meaningful to me.

In short, I am more energized than depressed.

That certainly makes me feel better! I was feeling great about our visit then whamm. I think we all have to prioritize our life no matter what stage we are in. Now that I am 62, I know that time is shorter each day if we go by statistics. But, as you say, to enjoy the time we have is of essence. Except. I did not enjoy work yesterday, my legs were crying and my hip said enough! but my patients said "I want Rita". It got so bad that I told an Aide that was always getting me for someone to not say" ......wants you" but to just say the name, ie, "Jim". So for the rest of the day that is what he did. At least I got to laugh about it and so did he.
