I'm Sorry, Butt

I know I'm going to hell for this but with the news from DC, I could not help it.

Fall is here?

I am certainly not ready for it, but have no choice in the matter. Fall is here! The wind is blowing, it rained last night and the leaves are starting to fall. I emptied my fountain in back and will put it up for the winter. I hate to do that but it fills up with leaves nearly the second that I finish filling it. My perennials are really looking shabby. I saved some seeds for next year---esp. plentiful are the "four O'clock" seeds. I will share with any of you that would want some, pretty irridescent pinks, multi-colored yellow and red and other colors. The grass is nice and green and growing faster than it did in the spring. Yesterday I cleaned out the filth in the car. I have the windows to do today. And since it is pretty nice outside will putter in the flower beds. Have a great Sunday you all.

Finished!!!!

We are finally finished with the walkway project. My head it aching from thinking what I want to plant around the walk and knees and back from planting the stuff. The pics are a before and after. What do you think? Most of the plantings are miniatures: hostas that grow only too 4-6 inched and boxwood bushes that grow 6" tall and wide. The other plants include ornamental oregano and something called a low growing cranberry bush that reminds me of an euyonimus but I do not think it is evergreen. Also note that I tried a crepe myrtle in the foreground where the BIG burning bush used to be.

I'm Over It

I will be really glad when this 9/11 national holiday has passed. I am at the point where I immediately grab the remote when a related story is introduced. How long will it be until we start having 9/11 sales at a store near you.

3,000 people died.

I wish we were as obsessive about the 43,000 deaths caused by traffic accidents (non alcohol related), the 85,000 deaths related to alcohol use, the 435,000 deaths caused by tobacco use, the 29,000 killed by guns. (Multiply each of these numbers by 5 to compare with the 5 year total of deaths by terrorism.)

How about the fact that twice as many black babies die than do white ones.

A whole bunch of people die premature and preventable deaths. Let's act as if we care about them all.

Feeling Better

Well Rita, I have taken your advice and now am feeling better. It’s noon Sunday, so it just a little too soon to be sure but I am hopeful.

I am typing this while sittng outside my apt. The weather here seems to have turned a corner. Lower temp (upper 80s) and less humidity can made one almost giddy. This has been an unusual summer. Not nearly as warm as recent others. How is that possible in a period of global warming?

Our temps are cooler because we have had more rain, more wind, and more cloud cover – all symptoms of global warming. In the past, we would go weeks without appreciable wind cloud cover, or rain. Heat would build up and we would have a week of so of temps above 100. This year we have had one day at 100 exactly. Sweet.

And Lois, yesterday I wasn’t feeling well, so I pursued one of my sure fire pick-me-ups, a visit to the cat adoption center at the PetsMart store. It is a mere 200 yds from my door. There was a fluffy gray baby with blue eyes. She/he was stalking a fly that was in her room as only a baby kitten can.

He is gone

What happened to Allen's name on the blog members? Raining today, and cooler. I put on long sleeve shirt and jeans to keep warm. I have to finish planting tree and shrub but every time to mood presents it starts raining again. Hope the weather is better where you all are.
